Summer of ’90 with the Grateful Dead

The sun shone on that bright summer day,
As fans gathered from near and far away.
The tour was set to begin again,
A journey filled with love and friendships to mend.

The parking lot scene like a carnival,
Tie-dye tents and flags billowing in the air.
Grateful smiles were shared all around,
As we embraced the magic that could be found.

With coolers filled with food and brew,
A celebration to last through the afternoon.
The stage set up before our eyes,
Anticipation grew as showtime drew nigh.

As the band took their place on stage,
Thousands of voices belted out in sage.
“Touch of Grey” echoed throughout the stands,
A reminder that we’re all just simple hands.

Jerry’s guitar twanging through the night,
Bobby’s voice strong and full of delight.
Phil’s bass holding down the rhythm tight,
Mickey & Billy pounding out the light.

Brent’s piano skills were on display,
Adding depth to each song they would play.
Vince shone like a star on the keys,
As their musicianship so effortlessly please.

The dancing never seemed to stop,
The crowd in synch with every note and flop.
Fireworks burst within our hearts,
This experience was unlike any other arts.

“Scarlet Begonias” into “Fire on the Mountain”,
The music took us higher than the tallest fountain.
“China Doll” sung soft and sweet,
A moment to rest our dancing feet.

“Box of Rain” brought tears to many eyes,
A poignant reminder that nothing lasts forever, no surprise.
But this moment was full of love and grace,
A testament to the human race.

The encore of “Sugar Magnolia”,
One last chance for us all to holler.
“We will get by,” we sang as one,
Knowing in our hearts that it wasn’t done.

As the night came to an end,
Tent cities arose, old friends and new bend.
Songs were sung and stories shared,
Of a journey that bonded us all so fair.

The morning sun dawned on our tired eyes,
But we knew the magic would never die.
This summer with the Grateful Dead,
A time we’ll forever hold in our hearts instead.

The Summer of ’90 was a time like no other,
Following the Dead and making memories together.
So raise a Heineken to love, friendship, and song,
May we never forget how they made us feel so strong.
