Hark! The call from Pope Urban II,
A holy war to free Jerusalem,
Echoes through the land and sea,
And Europe’
The people rise with zeal ablaze,
Their swords and shields held firmly high;
For Christendom they will give their lives,
In this most noble cause.
Knights of valor, peasants and serfs,
Pilgrims all, unite beneath the cross.
A holy army forged from belief
To face adversity in a foreign land.
Their journey begins along the road,
The sun scorching upon their way;
Through hills and valleys, through storms and strife,
They march with faith as their guide.
Along the path of starvation, death,
And plagues that ravage both man and beast;
Their determination never wanes,
For they are soldiers of the Lord.
The walls of Antioch stand proudly tall,
A formidable obstacle in their way;
Months pass by, but God’s will prevails,
And the city falls on that glorious day.
Jerusalem awaits with arms stretched wide,
Its streets long silent to the Crusader’s tread;
Their swords shine bright, their shields unyielding,
As they break down walls and breach city gates.
Blood stains the stones of the Holy City,
A victory both hard-won and dearly bought,
For upon this day in God’s great name,
Christians now control Jerusalem.
Lamentations fill the air that night,
The enemy’s grief echoing through the streets;
But in the hearts of Crusaders gathered there,
Joy and triumph sing sweetly and complete.
From this moment on, history will recall,
The First Crusade’s epic journey and strife;
A tale of faith and strength that united all,
To conquer Jerusalem in the name of Christ.
The world changed forever after that day,
New kingdoms formed and new alliances made;
But for those brave souls who fought and bled,
They knew they were guided by God’s grace.
And when their deeds are sung through the ages,
The First Crusade will shine like a beacon of light;
A testament to faith, courage, and endurance,
In that holy quest for Jerusalem’s might.
