The Spirit of ’76

In the land of liberty, an unrest grows deep,
Farmers and merchants, discontented souls they keep;
Forced to pay taxes from a distant rule,
It’s time for change, it can no longer be cruel.

The voices of freedom begin to sound loudly,
The cries for justice are echoing proudly;
“No Taxation without representation!” they shouted,
Enough is enough – this will not be allowed!

And so the Boston Tea Party came into being,
A defiant act, a declaration of freedom-seeking;
The Sons of Liberty made their stand bold,
This was a message, unmistakably told.

The Intolerable Acts were met with fierce opposition,
As the colonists gathered in solidarity and submission;
The First Continental Congress declared “Enough!”
And so it began, a war to end the rough.

Then came the shots heard ’round the world,
In Lexington and Concord, they were finally unfurled;
A battle for freedom like none before,
The American Revolution had broken out in full roar.

George Washington took command, a leader brave and true,
With his Continental Army, against all odds they’d pursue;
Valley Forge would test their strength and resolve,
But the spirit of ’76 would not dissolve.

The turning point came at Saratoga,
A victory decisive for America,
The French alliance solidified their chance,
For a new nation to take its stance.

At Yorktown, the British surrendered,
And so independence was finally rendered;
With courage and spirit, they stood up against all odds,
To create a new nation that would forever be God’s.

The American Revolution will forever remain,
A symbol of freedom, an unforgettable refrain;
The Spirit of ’76 lives on in our hearts,
And we shall never forget the true meaning of this great start!
